VP Racing X98 is a 98% ethanol race fuel built for closed-course competition where maximum octane and combustion consistency matter more than pump-fuel convenience. Ethanol's high latent heat of vaporization pulls significant heat out of the intake charge on the way into the cylinder, which is why high-ethanol blends like X98 support aggressive compression ratios and forced-induction setups that pump fuel and standard race gas can't handle without detonation.
At 115 octane (R+M/2) — 105 MON, 125 RON — X98 gives tuners a wide margin above pump fuel's typical 91-93 octane, allowing ignition timing to be advanced and compression raised without knock. Ethanol also burns with a wider stoichiometric air-fuel ratio than gasoline, so engines running X98 need rejetting or a tune update to run correctly — this is not a drop-in additive, it's a dedicated race fuel requiring fuel system setup for ethanol.
X98 is formulated for closed-course racing only, not for street use. Ethanol is more aggressive toward certain rubber and plastic fuel system components than gasoline — confirm your fuel lines, seals, and carburetor/injector components are ethanol-compatible before running high-ethanol content fuel. Not intended for pump-fuel engines without ethanol-rated fuel system components.
